Composer

Paul Rissmann is an award-winning composer who has written music for orchestras, ensembles and theatrical productions. He has created music for the unveiling of a bridge, the topping-out ceremony of a building and the bicentenary of a city.

Frequently commissioned to transform children’s literature into symphonic scores, Paul won a British Composer Award in 2012 and was nominated for an Ivor Novello Composer Award in 2020.

Paul’s music has been performed in venues across the world, including Avery Fisher Hall,  Barbican Concert Hall, Hamer Hall, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Royal Festival Hall, Usher Hall and Wigmore Hall. His compositions have been played at an Olympic Torch ceremony by the Philharmonia Orchestra, in Daytona Beach by the London Symphony Orchestra and on Poole Harbour by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Recent commissions showcase Paul’s versatility, including a prequel to Stravinsky’s Firebird ballet for the London Philharmonic Orchestra, a setting of Shaun Tan’s Oscar-winning The Lost Thing for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and the soundtrack to an animated film about dinosaurs.
